(thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one's on me)
May 31, 2008Yeah, I wish...
I am currently compiling a list of equipment I need in order to actually survive on this career path (you know, one of THOSE lists) and have been looking at other photographer's "Gear Guides" for tips on upgrades/necessities/etc.
Holy sheyat. I haven't priced things in awhile... I think I'm going to have to take up prostitution or something to pay for this stuff (or at least, to pay my rent while I try to figure out some way to pay for this stuff). I'm currently working with really cheap gear on a very out of date camera body, that really can't (technologically) consistantly give me the kind of quality I need for publication (my point and shoot has a better megapixel rating than my DSLR body :P) So to start off, I was drooling over Todd Owyoung's Gear Guide on ishootshows.com... most of which is so far out of my reach I can't even pipedream about having any of it. If I could in any semblance of reality ever afford a Nikon D3, believe me, I'd want one. Trying to get fast enough glass to shoot in the dark is going to be bad enough :P My personal pipedream: Nikon D300 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor Lens Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras Apple MacBook Pro MB133LL/A 15.4" Laptop (2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 200 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive) (The rest of the list)

May 13, 2008Community News: Buzznet must delete these posts
Hello to all the AFI/Blaqk Audio communities on Buzznet!
NOTE: The info on images that cannot be posted and must be removed from your accounts applies to ALL images on Buzznet, not just those tagged into the communities. It includes private posts, posts on private profiles and ones made into both public and private groups. This is the first in a series of posts to help bring you up to date on what Buzznet is doing with the music communities and make sure you get new information as it's released. I strongly recommend you to keep an eye out for these posts... no one should be caught by surprise by Buzznet enforcing it's Terms of Service, but sometimes a reminder of what they are helps. You can find this link at the bottom of every page on the site--- Buzznet Terms of Use You can see PanasonicYouth's post introducing the new AFI Community Music Guides here: Say hello to your new moderators! and you can find other helpful information in the discussion in the MCR community announcement: Introducing your new MCR Music Guides!. (This was originally posted in each of the AFI/Blaqk Audio/Davey Havok/Jade Puget/Hunter Burgan/Adam Carson Community Forums on 5/9/08... "Community News: Buzznet must delete these posts" if you are unable to comment this post, you can do so on the forum copy) First and foremost you may be noticing a lot of photos being deleted by Buzznet from the AFI and band member areas, and other photos that aren't deleted having the tags that place them in the communities removed (they'll still be on the person's account, they just won't be in the community area)... This is happening across the entire site, not just in AFI. 1) Buzznet must delete all image bureau posts on their servers. They have licensing agreements with Getty Images and others and people uploading their photos jeopardizes those contracts and places them at great liability if they aren't removed. It's copyright infringement and theft of intellectual property, plain and simple... and Getty does act to protect their images (see their notices of potential $150,000 per image smack down that can be leveled on infringers) Please, PLEASE make sure you are not posting image bureau photos on your account, and PLEASE delete any that you've already got up. It doesn't matter if you don't tag them into the community, if your page is private, or if you only put them in private groups (Buzznet employees can see everything that's posted). They must be deleted from Buzznet's servers, and an Admin has to push the delete button on every one of them. Please help him out and spare him hours and hours and a potential case of carpal tunnel having to do this all himself, and check your galleries for images. Any of the image bureaus... Getty Images, WireImage, Music Pictures etc have to come down. Many are happily watermarked across the image and easy to identify ... many, many are unfortunately unmarked ones... so if you have something you posted because you usually see it with a Getty watermark and thought it was great to find a nice clean one, it still needs to be removed. If you aren't familiar with their catalogs, I know it's hard to tell if it's theirs or not.. but c'mon guys, you aren't supposed to be uploading photos you don't own/have permission from the copyright owner (not the person whose Photobucket you found it on, the real owner) to upload. If you didn't realize what you had up, and find those images removed from your gallery, it's because Buzznet correctly identified them and had to take them down, too. 2) Non image bureau copyrighted photos that receive copyright complaints will also be removed by Buzznet, no matter where you've posted them. Please be careful uploading media. I know it's great to find a fantastic old photo of the guys and you want to share it with everyone here... but please try to identify the photographer and get their permission. If it has their name or copyright on it, or you found it on their site, it should be obvious you need to ask them! 3) Images that are tagged incorrectly will be untagged. Right now, the Music Guides are cleaning up and organizing the community tags by removing the tags from mis-tagged and unrelated images that place them in the AFI and band member communities. They will still be in the members personal gallery. This means (for example) that the thousands of images of Davey Havok that have been posted tagged "Adam Carson" and "Hunter Burgan", so the poster could drive up the number of posts s/he's credited with towards a "Top Contributer" spot, are having those tags removed (unless they're deleted by Buzznet for TOS/copyright issues, they'll still appear on the poster's own site and in the "AFI" and "Davey Havok" tag areas if they have those tags) THIS MEANS, you will be able to search "Adam Carson" and get a search result that is actually photos of Adam Carson! Seriously, just in the little bit that's been done so far... a few days ago I had to search for a photo with Adam in it I saw posted last year, AND I ACTUALLY FOUND IT. WOOT!!! We'll have more about what other images may be untagged, some requests on posting your fan fiction (and I have an idea of how to better promote/list your stories so people can find them easier, until such time as a better way to search/preview journals comes along) and other community ideas/news coming up in the next week or so.... so if you've read this far, THANK YOU! ~Misery Buzznet AFI/BA Community Music Guides

May 10, 2008private gallery/photo rant
First I try to turn all my AFI photos private in private galleries in order to remove them from the AFI communities during the photo untagging/deletion cleanup going on...
And they all remain in the community. Then I try to create a private gallery for my figurative paintings (ie., NUDES), and it won't display the photos. First I uploaded one as a private post, it wouldn't display, and it wouldn't let me turn it public. Then I reuploaded a new copy as a public post, and it still doesn't show in the gallery. I hate trying to do anything on Buzznet on the weekend! D-:

May 8, 2008The Dear & Departed change lineup![]() Posted by The Dear & Departed May 8, 2008 - Thursday Hello prettys, We hope all of you are keeping well and happy and are preparing for the summer months that are no doubt on their way now! I just thought id write a little something as im sure you all aware that we have been fairly quiet since getting back from the Tiger Army tour. After meeting a couple of days ago with everyone, we collectively decided that Joel and David won't continue to play with us. This was a decision reached by everyone and has obviously had alot of thought put into it. Recently Steve Hewitt and Placebo parted ways ways after 11 years, and Brian Molko went on to say something i think explains our situation too. "Being in a band is very much like being in a marriage. To say that you don't love your partner anymore is inaccurate, considering all that you've been through and achieved together. There simply comes a point when you realize that you want different things from your relationship and that you can no longer live under the same roof, so to speak." In many cases, decisions like this result in loss of friendships and bad blood, and im glad to say there is none, and we wish them happiness in whatever they decide to do in life. Darren and myself have always written together and now that the wonderboy Matt has been added to the mix, we think we have what is easily the best stuff to date. I know youre all going to love the new songs and we are so excited to get back and see you all and play them for you!!! Stay tuned and keep in touch!! If any Canadians are bored over the next few weeks, come out to a City and Colour and Black Lungs show to say hi!! Ill be doing the tour with them and they definitely put on a show you cannot afford to miss!! Love Dan Darren Matt

May 7, 200860 Rules of Horror Punk
Found by my friend EVB...
http://diablocast.blogspot.com/2007/12/60-rules-of-horror-punk.html 60 Rules of Horror Punk (stolen from the forums at World Horror Network) by Kurt Andersen 1.) Religiously watch Horror movies. 2.) Be a "Fiend" 3.) Be a "Ghoul" 4.) Change your name to something spooky (Danzig, Sid Terror, Wednesday 13, Evil Presley) 5.) Never use the word "Spooky" 6.) Watch and thoroughly enjoy "Plan 9 From Outer Space" 7.) Use Whoas as much as possible in your music 8.) Have at least one song that’s about Zombies contain the word Zombie, Dead, or Undead 9.) Refer to graves, graveyards, or cemeteries as much as possible. They’re "Fiendish". 10.) You know what you need? some skeli gloves 11.) You know what those gloves could use? Some spikes 12.) Always refer to your band as either: Evil, Pure evil, the most evil, evilest, fiendish, or ghoulish band ever. 13.) Make sure at LEAST one member of your band has his face painted like a skull or a Zombie 14.) All members of your band are required to have Devil Locks. If they don’t know what that is, kill them immediately (Or kick them out of the bad, either one) 15.) Never gain popularity (cult or otherwise) until 10 years after your band has broken up 16.) After gaining popularity, reform with only one old member and tour using the same name of your "popular" band. 17.) Make sure your logo contains a creepy looking skull or some variation of the Fiend Skull. 18.) Make a skeleton shirt using only a black long sleeve shirt and White Out 19.) Make a band website but never update it. 20.) Never keep the same drummer, instead frequently hire new ones and fire them for ridiculous reasons. 21.) You’re not using enough Whoas! 22.) Pick out a creepy 1950's style horror movie font for you to write your band name in 23.) Use green and purple for shading as much as possible 24.) Spikes, spikes, spikes 25.) Only use BC Rich guitars, they’re both Ghoulish AND Fiendish 26.) Break a guitar or bass every show 27.) Get a job solely to buy new equipment 28.) Frequently attack your crowd, bash at least one person in the head with your guitar 29.) Get banned from San Francisco 308.) Write multiple songs about killing teenage girls and how much you enjoyed it 31.) Make sure your drummer gets kidnapped for 6 months while touring 32.) Whhhooooaaaahhh!!! 33.) Make sure every photo is at a graveyard, or you playing live. 34.) Why isn’t there any blood in your show? MORE BLOOD!!! 35.) Every time you play live, have an old zombie movie play in the background. 36.) Kill a cow and use its backbone on your leather jacket 37.) Frequently state in public that Jerry Only should have just let the Misfits die. 38.) Put a number in one of your songs or album covers. This insures that fiends will refer to it for years to come. 39.) Frequently whine that Balzac should tour the U.S. 40.) Make sure you have a side project or album title that has the name of a Misfits song on it 41.) Don't speak, it you have to, grumble incoherently 42.) Make sure your band has little or no musical talent 43.) Wear boots: If possible, put spikes on them 44.) Chains: Not only a great accessory, but good for attacking the crowd 44.) Tour every single day for months on end, stop only to record an album. 45.) Go to London to tour but instead get thrown in jail. Write a song about it. 46.) Open up your own club 47.) Get it shut down only a couple years after it opened due to payment issues and noise and violence complaints. 48.) Release self made EPs only, then compile them into two or three cds and give the cds different names then the EPs 49.) When thinking of lyrics, cd titles, band names etc. Remember, EVERYTHING comes from outer space 50.) Make your own record label, be sure to name it after an old horror movie or horror punk song 51.) Make sure your album covers contains any combination of the following: Zombies, Demons, Skulls, Vampires and half naked women 52.) Remember, Every day is Halloween 53.) If you want your band to be happy together and last long, don't be like Danzig. 54.) When writing lyrics, if you come at a writers block refer to rule 7 55.) If you’re browsing for cds and see one from Germany, get it. 56.) Frequently point out that the Nekromantix and Mad Sin are Psychobilly and not Horror-Punk 57.) Also at every possible moment, point out the difference between Psychobilly and Horror-Punk 58.) Punk Rock Is UNDEAD! 59.) When throwing a party, see rule 1 60.) You mean you sat here a read all this when you could be watching zombies massacre each other!? For shame, fooorrr shhhaaaammmmeee
