Captain Jack and Amanda (f*cking) Palmer - SDCC 2009 Friday

A few shots from Friday...

John Barrowman - AKA "Captain Jack Harkness"/ Torchwood

John Barrowman is insanely good looking. Do not attempt to argue this fact.

Comic-Con/Buzznet meetup?

Okay, so WHO'S GOING TO COMIC-CON?!? (Besides me and Yashi and Faye and Ounceofwentz and Panasonicyouth and Kron and...) What are you looking forward to doing/seeing? What panels are you dead set on camping out in line for so you absolutely don't miss them?

And most IMPORTANTLY, who'll be attending the hopefully forvever and ever closing con new tradition of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer Musical Sing Along SUnday afternoon?! (Can't miss it, it literally closes the con. Big room, upstairs. Lot's of seats... and last year, for some reason, a plethora of finger puppets) If you have no idea what I'm talking about, THIS SITE might help explain. If you DO know what I'm talking about and are looking at these words with disdain, then I'll have to assume you're a jaded soulless nether beast who probably needs a good staking. I mean... Giles sings. THAT'S worth it right there.

AFI: CRASH LOVE OUT SEPTEMBER 29

PR: Davey Havok, Jade Puget, Hunter Burgan and Adam Carson, collectively known as AFI, will be releasing their eighth studio album, CRASH LOVE, September 29 on DGC/Interscope Records.

Produced by Joe McGrath and Jacknife Lee and two years in the making, CRASH LOVE is possibly AFI’s most focused, direct and ambitious effort to date. On standout tracks including “Medicate,” “Veronica Sawyer Smokes,” “End Transmission,” “Beautiful Thieves” and more, Puget, Burgan and Carson’s inimitable chemistry shines more brightly than ever while Havok’s lyrics reach beyond his trademark abstract introspection, delving into examination and dissection of celebrity culture from within and without.

“Honestly I’ve never been more proud of an AFI record,” said Havok. “We are thrilled to hear it come to life.”

During CRASH LOVE’s recording, the members of AFI were joined at Los Angeles’ Conway Studios by the winners of the band’s Begin Transmission contest, in which the band members personally went through thousands of fan-made video submissions and chose a handful of entrants to contribute backing vocals to the new album. Honorable Mentions also chosen by the band each received a handmade Valentines Day card by the member of AFI who chose him or her.

CRASH LOVE follows up two consecutive platinum AFI albums, 2006’s DECEMBERUNDERGROUND which entered the U.S. chart at #1 and 2003’s SING THE SORROW. AFI’s discography also includes the full lengths THE ART OF DROWNING (2000), BLACK SAILS IN THE SUNSET (1999), SHUT YOUR MOUTH & OPEN YOUR EYES (1997), VERY PROUD OF YA (1996) and ANSWER THAT AND STAY FASHIONABLE (1995).

Are Bands like Brokencyde and The Millionaires "Punk"?

http://www.punknews.org/article/33989

"My thought is this: You don’t have to like Brokencyde, or Jeffree Star, or the Millionaires, and I’m not saying that I do necessarily. But they are doing something, capturing something, stirring up controversy. Punk bands used to stir up controversy; if you’re taking that as the definition of “punk”, these artists could fall under that category." ~Kevin Lyman

Can a band be "punk" simply by stirring up controversy? Or is there more to it? Does it need to include certain styles of music, or appearance, or message... is there a "punk" ethos and aesthetic (perspective, values, attitudes, customs, traditions) that is not all inclusive of every artist who elicits controversy (or even public outrage)? Or is "punk" an attitude not umbilically connected to any one genre?

Said Radio update - Eric Ozenne speaks...

Monday, June 29, 2009

"Hello....this is the writing of Eric Ozenne, otherwise known in todays world, as an illusion....As many people know. I am in Portland, Oregon living with my fabulous seven year old daughter (yes my dear fans of the Nerve Agents era, who remeber when she was born...you are now officially old!).

I have been in school for five years now, working on a social work bachelors degree.
I have been extremley buried in graduation stuff this year, senior projects and what not.

I recently got accepted into graduate school at Portland State University.

Said Radio, due to all of this, has been on hiatus. There are no Summer plans in place for touring. We three unfinished songs that need to be finished and released. The hope is that in September, we might be able to pull ourselves together and come see some of you and finally release those songs.

Have an excellent Summer people.

Eric Ozenne"
